Additional biographical notes
This database contains the names of 8,636 men who served in the Paddington Rifles. Established in 1860 in response to a Government call for volunteer soldiers in case of invasion or rebellion.
The Paddington Rifles were officially called the 36th Middlesex between 1860 and 1880, then the 18th Middlesex Volunteer Rifle Corps and finally, from 1908 the 10th (County of London) Battalion, the London Regiment (Paddington Rifles). The battalion was disbanded in 1912.
Men who served in both the 18th Volunteer Rifle Corps and the later 10th London Regiment will have two entries.
