A History of the People Called Quakers, From Their First Rise to The Present Time was published in 1790 by John Gough and set over four volumes. Gough’s history was compiled from his own experiences as a Quaker as well as ‘authentic records and from writings of that people’. The work is an essential source for Quaker history.
A History of the Rise and Progress of the People Called Quakers in Ireland, From The Year 1653-1700 was published in 1811 by Thomas Wight. The book begins with the first appearance of Quakers in Ireland and it concludes in 1669 and continues through the troubles under King James II and then the Act of Parliament which allowed for the registration of the meeting houses of the Society of Friends in 1719.
