The first Quaker meeting in Ireland was held in 1654. The Religious Society of Friend gathered for worship at the home of William Edmundson in Lurgan, County Armagh. Quakers have contributed to all aspects of Irish society throughout history. Thousands of Irish men and women worked in Quaker-owned textile factories and mills. The Society of Friends assisted thousands through their relief work during the Great Famine.
