The Belfast Gazette, along with the London Gazette and the Edinburgh Gazette, is an official newspaper of the United Kingdom government.
Published weekly on Fridays by The Stationery Office, on behalf of Her Majesty’s Stationery Office in Belfast, The Belfast Gazette is the Official Newspaper of Record for Northern Ireland.
The gazette includes legal and official announcements from HM Government, the Northern Ireland Executive, the Armed Forces, local authorities, churches, companies and private citizens.
As it became increasingly clear that Ireland would be divided, the north would require its separate Official Newspaper of Record, and the Belfast Gazette was founded in June 1921 as a successor to the Dublin Gazette.
The Dublin Gazette did continue and became the Iris Oifigiúil in January 1922.
Begin your search broadly. Start with only a first and last name and year range. If needed, you can continue to edit your search by adding a keyword.
Try different name combinations if you are having difficulty locating your ancestor’s entry. Occasionally, a first name was recorded as an initial only. Try searching with only a last name and year.
The optional keyword field will search all the text available on the original image.
