The records in this collection were transcribed from the original birth register of William Waylett (1729-1815), a male midwife who practiced in Lydd and the surrounding parishes on Romney Marsh in Kent. The collection spans the years from 1757 to 1815. Unfortunately, the majority of the records are recorded without the first names of either the mother or child. Mothers in the original were recorded with their husbands’ names (e.g. Mrs John Smith).
Each result will provide you with a transcript. The amount of available information varies from record to record, but most will include the following details:
Folkestone and District Family History Society was founded in 1976 to encourage and promote the study of family history in the South East Kent area, covering Folkestone, Hythe, Romney Marsh, and surrounding villages. It provides advice and assistance to members with South East Kent ancestry, as well as to members whose roots are elsewhere, and welcomes the beginner and the more experienced family historian alike.
Our programme of monthly meetings includes speakers on subjects of interest to beginners and experts alike, as well as discussion and project sessions. Time is allowed at meetings for informal exchange of advice and information and shopping at the bookstall. A guided walk of a place of local historical interest is usually arranged in the summer.
Our journal, The Kentish Connection, published quarterly and free to members, contains articles by members and information on various family history topics.
Minibus trips to The National Archives at Kew are arranged twice a year.
